WHAT'S WRONG WITH CLOVER ?

In El Domingo, a small Californian desert town where football and toxic masculinity reign supreme, seventeen-year-old Clover is the perfect America’s Sweetheart: beautiful, smiling, adored, and shaped by the male gaze. Her only genuine friend is Rita, a marginalized Mexican-American girl fascinated by Santa Muerte.

During a game, a football thrown by quarterback Brad violently strikes Clover. It’s the accident, the fall, the coma. Taking advantage of her condition, Brad and several of his teammates take advantage of her in her bedroom, whilst a voyeuristic neighbor secretly films the scene.

When Clover awakens, a long scar splits across her face. Disfigured, no longer able to embody the perfect image everyone expected of her, she is rejected by all.

Broken, Clover develops a strange relationship with the football responsible for her fall. Endowed with a consciousness of its own, it becomes the reflection of her rage and unleashes a bloody revenge against the men of El Domingo, ultimately transforming Clover herself into a monstrous and cathartic creature during one final football game. Only Rita will manage to bring her back to her humanity.
